Facing the difficult decision to surrender your dog?
We are here to help.
We understand that life circumstances can change, and the decision to surrender a dog is never easy. Our goal is to support families in exploring options that may help resolve the challenges you’re facing.
Before moving forward with surrender, we encourage you to review the resources provided below. Many situations, including behavioral concerns, financial hardship, or medical questions, may have solutions that allow your dog to remain in your home.
If, after reviewing these options, it is not possible to keep your dog, complete the surrender request.
Please note: Submission of an application does not guarantee intake. Acceptance is based on available foster space and the specific needs of the dog.
Pet Resources
Behaviors
If your dog has recently developed new behaviors — such as urinating in the home or growling when handled — we strongly recommend scheduling a visit with your veterinarian first. Sudden behavior changes are often linked to underlying medical conditions that may be treatable.
Your veterinarian can help rule out physical causes and, if needed, refer you to a qualified trainer or behavior specialist who uses positive reinforcement methods to safely and effectively address the issue.
Pet Friendly Rentals
Pet-friendly rental options are available, though they may require additional time and research to secure. We encourage you to begin your housing search as soon as you know a move is coming and to ask landlords about pet policies, deposits, and breed restrictions early in the process.
